NLP (Neuro-Linguistic Programming)

I use NLP with almost every aspect of my work. It can be used as a ‘stand alone’ therapy but when combined with hypnosis it is extremely powerful.

What is NLP?

NLP is a systemic model that involves a collection of many techniques to bring about desired changes in the way we communicate, both with ourselves and others.

What is it used for?

It has many applications and can be used in business, coaching and therapy.

I use NLP to help clients to manage their ‘states’

What is a ‘state’

When you have difficulties such as anxieties, stress, eating problems or just about every ‘problem feeling’ or behaviour, you are said to be in a ‘state’.

For example, if you are in the throes of experiencing a phobia you may manifest certain characteristics that suggest an overwhelming sense of danger, even when there is absolutely no threat.
Your physical sensations may consist of sweaty palms, rapid breathing, pounding heart, wobbly legs and nausea. Your internal dialogue may be something along the lines of “Oh my God, I must get away”. This could then trigger behaviour that is extremely dangerous, just to get out of the way of the perceived threat.

The culmination of thoughts, emotions, bodily sensations and behaviours are our ‘state’

State Management

When using NLP I help you find your preferred state and then employ techniques to reprogram the subconscious.

With the example of the phobia, I would help the you identify how you would prefer to be feeling in the ‘trigger situation’.
The preferred state may be: Feeling calm, happy and relaxed with thoughts focused on good things about the situation, behaving in positive way and thinking logically.
Once I have established the full detail of the ‘unwanted state’ and ‘the preferred state’ we can then set applying appropriate techniques to bring about the changes.

State management can be applied to just about every problem that a clients present with.

Well Formed Outcome

The starting of NLP is to discover what life will be like when your problem is gone. You could call this the ‘Goal’ but in NLP we call it ‘A Well Formed Outcome’ and there is quite a big difference between the two.

I want understand ‘exactly’ what you want to achieve, how you want to behave, how you want to feel, how you want to think when your problem is gone and how is will improve the wider context of your life and relationships.

Having a well formed outcome is more than just a goal it gives us the wider context.

I Am Curious

I also want to understand what has stopped you from achieving you goal before now. I gather information about what holds you back in life, like negative beliefs about yourself or others. I want to know what you value in life and what you are good at.

There is so much more to us than just the problem, we also have many positive resources.

I can help you find those resources.
