Collaboration – Year 1<\/p>\n
We invest our time\/expertise in COLLABORATION\u00a0with our annual grassroots partner to\u00a0develop \u2018Nueluxe\u2019 solutions to fund\u00a0education for some of the most vulnerable youngsters on the planet, including those who live on the streets. We are inspired by those we showcase on Nueluxe.com who channel luxe spending (which is growing exponentially) to where it\u2019s needed most, via sustainable and dignified trade.<\/p>\n
Our year 1 grassroots partner is the Latin America Foundation for the Future (LAFF).<\/p>\n
THE PROBLEM:<\/p>\n
There are estimated to be over 100 million + children living and\/or working on the streets, according to Unicef. Accurate statistics are extremely difficult\u00a0to gather but no country is exempt from this tragedy; from Glasgow to Gujarat.<\/p>\n
In an ideal world, families and governments would honour these children’s basic human rights including education. Then some would say this is where charity comes into play but \u201cThere are not enough donor funds in the world to alleviate the preventable problems in the world<\/em>.\u201d\u00a0 (SevenBarFoundation.org 2011) When it comes to street kids\u2026<\/p>\n Millions of seemingly kind-hearted tourists give money to street children or buy the products they sell, thinking they are helping when actually they\u2019re fuelling a cruel cycle. We want to show how these funds can be channeled effectively……that’s a lot of well-intentioned money not really helping those it’s intended to help<\/p>\n Reducing the need for charity in future and getting to the root cause of why these kids are on the streets in the first place. Poverty. Academic research shows that sustainable trade is the answer to alleviating poverty long-term.<\/p>\n changing the story for millions of children, who have been born into poverty and have been denied . It shouldn’t be up to the luck of the drawer but the harsh reality of the divide between rich and poor means that currently, it is. In this globalised world, there’s no more ‘us and them’, it’s all about ‘us’. We’ve seen how sustainable businesses and consumers can help those who are not being helped by\u00a0governments and charities.<\/p>\n FINDING SOLUTIONS:<\/p>\n We aim to create a sustainably luxe venture that provides care, board, education and a vocational training centre for marginalised children (street-living, street-working, former street children and at-risk of becoming street children). We are basing the development on a combination or proven models, together, it will provide care, education and a brighter future for the street children of Cusco. The aim is to create a template that can be replicated anywhere in the world.<\/p>\n Funded by a group of small businesses including a shop, restaurant and boutique hotel ie. eco luxe services for tourists in Cusco, Peru. These businesses will generate income for the training programme and provide a realistic training ground.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n The aim is to alleviate the poverty that caused these kids to be on the streets in the first place (by providing education, employing local people, boosting local trade by using local suppliers and all whilst striving to be as eco-friendly as possible and respecting the local natural resources) and helping to break the cycle. Street kids, lack of access to training and education, have poor self-esteem, and suffer from stigmatisation. By empowering street children, we make the world a nicer place for all our children.<\/p>\n Why Peru?<\/p>\n In Latin America XXXX,Peru, (in particular Cusco, Lima and Arequipa) there are vast numbers of street living and working children. Extreme poverty of the Andes\/combined with the attraction of the tourist dollar, results in urban migration and children working instead of being in school.<\/p>\n With an extensive network in Peru,between Nueluxe & LAFF, the foundation is currently working on the pilot scheme by working with a local hospitality school and local high-end hotels to create a tailored vocational training programme which results in employment for street youth.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n
